This lecture introduces blockchain functioning. It first explains blockchain history and the technology’s ideological roots. It then explores the features common to all blockchains (i.e., decentralization, distribution, pseudonymity, and encryption), and the ones that vary between blockchains (i.e., consensus protocols, permissions, access).
